A memory by Thomas Moriarty ’65, ’85M

My freshman year in 1961 was the first trimester at Ship. The classes were all 75 minutes long. I had an 8:00 a.m. class I struggled to stay awake in. My classmates struggled too. So to stay awake, I counted how many times they each nodded off.

Another Ship memory that sticks in my head happened in November of 1963. I was lying on my bed in my dorm room on the fourth floor of Old Main and listening to the radio. The announcer was a student. He announced the shooting of President Kennedy. I ran to the Chapel where my history professor Dr. Bouchard’s office was and alerted him of the shooting. Bouchard began alerting other faculty around campus.
